Reykjavík’s Vör Cruise Terminal has been awarded Europe’s Best Cruise Terminal 2026 at the World Cruise Awards, marking a significant milestone for Iceland’s growing cruise industry.
Opened in May 2026, Vör is Iceland’s first purpose-built cruise terminal. The award comes during its inaugural year, with Reykjavík selected ahead of 13 other European nominees, including established cruise destinations such as Barcelona, Amsterdam and Lisbon. It is the first time an Icelandic port or cruise terminal has received the distinction.
For Atlantik, which operates from Vör during the cruise season, the recognition is especially welcome. It highlights the continued development of Reykjavík’s cruise infrastructure and the importance of reliable facilities for international cruise operations.

A Stronger Foundation for Cruise Operations
Vör represents an important advancement in how Reykjavík welcomes cruise passengers and supports international cruise lines. Designed to accommodate modern cruise operations, the terminal offers improved passenger facilities, dedicated baggage handling areas and spaces for cruise personnel and local service providers.
These improvements are particularly valuable during turnaround calls, when passengers begin or end their cruise in Reykjavík. Coordinating embarkation, disembarkation, luggage, transportation and airport transfers requires careful planning and close cooperation between multiple partners. The new facilities provide a more structured environment for these operations, supporting both operational efficiency and a considered passenger experience.
Atlantik’s Role in Reykjavík’s Cruise Operations
With experience in Iceland’s cruise industry dating back to 1978, Atlantik has supported the development of Reykjavík as an international cruise destination for decades. During the cruise season, Atlantik makes use of operational facilities at Vör to support the coordination of shore excursions, turnaround services and passenger logistics.
The terminal provides an improved working environment for cruise lines and their local partners, supporting close coordination between port authorities, transport providers and operational teams. For Atlantik, these developments complement decades of local experience in managing complex cruise operations throughout Iceland.

Looking Ahead for Reykjavík
Vör’s recognition reflects more than the success of a new terminal. It represents an important step in Reykjavík’s continued development as a North Atlantic cruise destination. Improved infrastructure also creates opportunities for passengers to spend more time in Iceland before or after their voyage, supporting the wider tourism industry and the development of carefully designed destination experiences. For Atlantik, the award is a welcome recognition of the investment and work undertaken by Faxaflóahafnir (Associated Icelandic Ports) and the many professionals contributing to Iceland’s cruise sector.
We congratulate Faxaflóahafnir and everyone involved in bringing Vör to life. As a long-standing partner to the international cruise industry, Atlantik is proud to be part of this development and to continue welcoming cruise partners and their guests to Reykjavík.
